Young people from Lichfield ‘s Aspire Project are taking part in the Lichfield Mysteries. Drama group members, under the direction of leader Emily Robinson, are currently rehearsing two plays – The Last Supper and The Betrayal. Aspire is funded by Children’s Fund but is run locally through Lichfield District Council leisure services. Emily said: “We are a small group, but enthusiastic and the children are thrilled to be joining in with the Mysteries.” The Aspire Project is aimed at eight to 14 year olds who live or go to school within North Lichfield, Edingale or Mile Oak, Fazeley and Drayton Bassett. Emily explained: “The Project aims to deliver a programme of activities and events that will help to develop friendships, self esteem and well-being, as well as encouraging a healthy lifestyle. “Children are encouraged to become involved and have valuable input toward the development of the Aspire programme. We endeavour to create activities that empower children and young people to engage positively at school and within the community.” The Aspire Project runs weekly clubs in North Lichfield, Mile Oak , Fazeley and Edingale and in addition offers holiday activities such as coaching sessions, workshops and fun activities. n Lichfield Mysteries, a free family event, takes place on July 4 and 5 in Market Square, Lichfield and in the Cathedral. |
