Boyfriend quizzed over blaze deaths

04:05, Sep 19 2012

Police are continuing to question the boyfriend of a teenage mother who died in a blaze which claimed the lives of three generations of one family.

Kim Buckley, 46, daughter Kayleigh, 17, and six-month-old Kimberley all died when fire ripped through their home.

Up to 30 firefighters attended the fierce blaze at 15 Tillsland, Coed Eva, Cwmbran, south Wales, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Kayleigh had recently given birth to twin daughters and was still coming to terms with the tragedy of losing one shortly after birth.

Carl Mills, 27, the father of the twins, was named locally as the boyfriend arrested by police on suspicion of murder. He is known to have had a stormy relationship with grandmother Kim Buckley, who was against her daughter seeing him from the outset.

Police said they had arrested a 27-year-old man, from the Manchester area, on suspicion of murder.

Officers had also been called to the family's three-bedroom home on a number occasions in the past and because of the previous contact the case had been voluntarily referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, police said.

Neighbours said Mr Mills had been living rough in a tent close to the family's home for at least the last month.

An open field cordoned off by the police as part of the crime scene investigation clearly showed a dismantled tent only yards from the burned out home.

The devastating suspected arson attack came as the family was in high spirits after baby Kimberley returned home from hospital for the first time this week.
