New plea over stolen Olympic medal

05:05, Oct 27 2012

Olympic rower Alex Partridge has issued a new plea for the return of his stolen medal after Team GB hockey player Hannah Macleod got hers back.

Both Olympians lost their medals when their TeamGB jackets were stolen as they partied at a London nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday.

But Miss Macleod, 28, got her bronze medal back after it was posted anonymously to the England Hockey head office at Bisham Abbey in Buckinghamshire on Friday.

Mr Partridge, 31, got his jacket back - minus his bronze medal - when it was handed in at a London police station on Thursday.

A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the thefts and bailed until November 23.

The sportsman is still hoping his medal will also be returned, and suggested it could safely be sent to his sport's headquarters.

He tweeted: "If you have my medal please send it to British Rowing 6 Lower Mall Hammersmith London."

Olympic cycling gold medallist Victoria Pendleton also tweeted a plea: "Happy to hear that @hannahmacleod6's olympic medal has been returned :) now if some1 could return @2012parters medal that would be great..."

Miss Macleod said she was delighted her medal had been returned and thanked everyone who had helped publicise the theft.

"I am indebted to everyone who has tweeted about it, everyone who has got in touch and who has publicised the situation," she said. "I can't thank you enough. I think all of you played a part in encouraging whoever had my medal to return it."
