A convicted murderer with paranoid schizophrenia has gone missing from a mental health hospital.
Hampshire Police said Daniel Rosenthal, 58, was last seen at 2.30pm on Saturday taking "a routine unsupervised walk around the gardens" of Tatchbury Mount Hospital, Totton.
Members of the public have been warned not to approach him as he is "potentially dangerous".
Detectives said Rosenthal has previously been known to visit Southampton and the New Forest.
He is described as 5ft 2in tall with a local accent and has short grey-brown hair with a basin-style fringe. He wears glasses with a metal rim and walks with a hunch and a "scuffle", police said.
Rosenthal was last seen wearing "closed in" sandals, light brown and baggy cord trousers and a long-sleeved cream-coloured shirt with buttons down the front.
A police spokesman said: "Police have carried out initial searches in the hospital, its grounds and the surrounding areas. Other inquiries are progressing."
Any sightings of Rosenthal should be reported by calling 999.
