Staffordshire’s GB Slalom women’s team have won gold in the European championships. In the Women’s K1 (kayak single) team event, Laura Blakeman and Lizzie Neave celebrated with team mate Louise Donington. They took first place with a time of 106.40 – almost four seconds ahead of runners-up, Slovakia. Laura said: “We got together as a team to practise the timings and spacing. We stuck to our individual plans but had to adapt slightly to take other team members into account. I have won a few silver and bronze medals but never gold at a major international event. It’s an achievement, especially considering the quality of competitors – I’m delighted.” Overall, Great Britain took two golds and one silver medal, in the team events. |
