Dragons take early control

Sep 13 2006

Birmingham Post

Brereton Town 1 Burntwood Dragons Under 8s 5 Brereton Town went into their first competitive game together without a regular goalkeeper so Conner Greensill donned the jersey, and was kept busy during the first half and could do little to prevent Dragons securing a 3-0 half time lead.

Harry Dawson, Luke McComiskie and Arron Cass defended bravely and George Eaton and Leo Anderson launched several attacks. Half time saw Leo Anderson take over between the stick's allowing Greensill to take over in Midfield and this saw Brereton dominate for long periods, with Greensill showing some silky skills with his surging runs. Callum Kerrigan produced a solid display upfront and despite an own goal and a dubious free kick giving Burntwood the three points, there were many positives for Town with Conner Greensill scoring a consolation goal whilst also being thwarted by some last ditch defending. Eaton also had chances and provided good service from dead ball situations. Man of the Match : Conner Greensill. Manager Kieran Newey is hoping to complete the signings of a couple of experienced players in time for next week. Next week Home

10.30 kick off.

Under 10's: Cannock Town 0 Brereton Town 2. The Under 10s got off to a flying start with an excellent performance against another newly formed team in Cannock, Goalkeeper Matthew Lawrence produced a commanding performance including a penalty save with the score still goalless, there were also outstanding performances from Tom Hackett, Sam Mason, Sam Bennett & Jake ' Vinny Jones' MCaulay. Cameron Lewis produced a Man of the Match performance in defence and shared the award with two goal hero Tom Murphy. This was a great start for a team who only had one preseaon friendly to prepare. l U13's: Brereton Town 0 Burntwood Leisure 7 B.T produced a solid performance before conceding 6 goals during the final 15mins. Josh Aspley took home the Man Of the Match award for his hard work, Whilst George Bell and Goalkeeper Callum Thacker were also impressive before the latter was forced off with a strained hamstring. Arjun Ghuman also deserves credit after donning the keeper's jersey. l U14's: Sutton Colfield Town 6 Brereton Town 1 Brereton started the game brightly and created several chances during this 1st 20 mins in which they totally dominated but only had Jamie Best's well taken goal to show for it and this proved costly as Sutton gradually fought their way back into the game and equalised shortly before half time. The second half saw Brereton kicking up the slope and they failed to cope with the conditions and were made to pay for some disappointing defending, with a number of players seemingly lacking the passion of Brereton's management and supporters.

Brad Pascall was named Man of the Match after an encouraging debut at right back.

Brereton must look for a vast improvement next week when they face Norton Canes at home, 2.30 kick off.

Brereton Town U14's are looking for additional players and are particularly keen to add defenders and a striker to their ranks.
