Paralympian Anderson to retire

15:45, Oct 16 2012

Six-time Paralympic swimming champion James Anderson is to retire next month after a career spanning two decades and six Games.

The 49-year-old made his Paralympic debut in Barcelona in 1992 and his successes included a clean sweep of four titles in Athens in 2004.

The Stirling swimmer was the oldest member of the British swimming team at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and missed out on adding to his medal haul.

"I've had a wonderful career and feel it is time to go out on a high," he said.

"Having competed at my sixth Paralympic Games on home soil in London it doesn't come much higher. I would like to thank all those who have helped me over the last 21 years from coaches to swimmers, support services and especially my parents."
