A former accountant is on a one-man mission to smash the stereotypes of that profession with his comedy magic show, Conjuring up Comedy, at the Lichfield Garrick Studio on Wednesday February 20. Ian Keable has taken his acclaimed one-man show all over the country and said: "There is no better place to see magic than in a theatre. It's only live that you can be absolutely certain there are no camera tricks involved." Ian honed his comedic skills in the comedy clubs and could still be earning a living working there. But for him the magic always came first. He explained: "Getting laughs is great fun, but when the audience are on the way home, I want them to stop and think: how did that money appear inside that lemon?" "In this show I get the best of both worlds - making the audience both gasp and laugh." Ian admits that magic wasn't the obvious profession to follow after accountancy but has no regrets about changing careers. He said: "It was a tough choice - whether I wanted to earn my living entertaining people or by sitting in an office adding up figures." "One thing I have kept from my days as an accountant is my suit - and it works in my favour. Because when I walk out on stage people are expecting a power point presentation on personal pensions and are delighted when I turn out to be funny instead."
