Joint production brings Bard's love story to stage

Feb 7 2008

Shakespeare's romantic masterpiece Romeo and Juliet gets the Northern Broadsides treatment this month as the internationally acclaimed theatre company joins forces with the award-winning New Vic theatre.

Romeo and Juliet is profound, moving and heart breaking and, as this raw production proves, has lost none of its dramatic power through the centuries.

The brilliant Northern Broadsides bring their own inimitable style to a co-production that has it all: from a flamboyant masked ball complete with rousing clog dancing, through a thrilling fight sequence, to a large dose of original music by Broadsides' Associate Director and New Vic regular Conrad Nelson, all performed by a large multi-talented cast, using their natural northern voices.

Taking the directorial reins is Artistic Director and Northern Broadsides founder Barrie Rutter, who directs a cast of 16 performers as well as playing Capulet.

The play runs from February 22 to March 15. Tickets £8 - £17 (with concessions available), from the box office on 01782 717962 or online: www.newvictheatre.org.uk
